Memories from Snowdon
Memories from Snowdon
Etching - edition of 30, image size 27cm x 16.5cm
Memories from Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) is an exploration of the landscape as it remains in the mind's eye - distilled into essential forms, light, and atmosphere. Using the traditional techniques of etching and aquatint, I have sought to replicate the grit and the grandeur of the Welsh fells. The process of aquatint allows for a deep, tonal richness that mimics the heavy shadows cast by the mountains over the glacial lakes below. This piece is less about a literal topographical recording and more about the experience of the height and the shifting Welsh weather. The prominent arc of light suggests a transitory moment - the sun breaking through the mist or perhaps a flash of memory - that illuminates the rugged permanence of Yr Wyddfa. It is a celebration of the sublime beauty and the enduring spirit of the North Wales wilderness.
