Storeton is a place defined by its "highland" character within the Wirral. Situated on a distinctive sandstone ridge, the village overlooks a landscape of open fields and ancient footpaths that have survived the surrounding urban expansion. In "Hillside Meadows," I wanted to capture the contrast between the enduring geological strength of the Storeton Ridgeand the delicate, fleeting life of the summer meadows. The use of graphite allows for a meticulous, almost botanical recording of the local flora, while the gouache provides a matte, velvety depth to the rolling hillsides. This work reflects the quiet, secluded atmosphere of the area—a "rural solitude" that has acted as a watch-tower over the peninsula for centuries. It is an invitation to slow down and notice the intricate beauty of the Wirral’s central plain.
