In this second study of Storeton Meadows, I moved away from the intricate detail of the flora to focus on the silhouette and stature of the landscape. This piece is about the weight of the atmosphere. Using a more restricted, almost monochromatic palette, I wanted to capture the Storeton Ridge on a day when the mist hangs low over the fields, blurring the boundaries between the earth and the sky. The trees here act as anchors—sentinels of the Wirral landscape that have stood through countless seasons. By layering graphite with broad sweeps of gouache, I’ve tried to replicate the "hazy" memory of a winter walk, where the forms are bold but the edges are soft.
