This evocative study of Derwentwater is a meditation on the immensity of nature and the human spirit. The title is a direct biblical reference to Psalm 42:7: "Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your waves and breakers have swept over me."

The painting captures the "darker" beauty of the Lake District - the quiet, heavy stillness of the water at dusk when the mountains become shadows. Using a restricted palette of deep indigos, teals, and charcoal greys, I have focused on the play of light over the water's surface and the mist-laden atmosphere. It is a piece designed for reflection, capturing that profound moment of connection between the observer and the vast, watery depths of the Cumbrian landscape.
