Haweswater In The Rain
Haweswater In The Rain
£500.00
Watercolour and mixed media on paper, 38x28cm, framed with anti-reflective UltraVue UV70 glass and an ivory black frame
Haweswater is perhaps the most isolated and haunting of the Lake District reservoirs, sitting at the head of the remote Mardale Valley. This painting is an attempt to capture the "beautiful gloom" of the fells when a heavy curtain of rain moves across the water.
Rather than painting the landscape and then adding the rain, I have worked the rain into the very fabric of the piece using mixed media techniques to create a sense of movement and immersion. The focus is not on a clear view, but on the feeling of being there - the smell of damp earth and the sound of water hitting water.
