Unlike the sheltered, wooded estuaries of the South Coast, the North Coast of Cornwall is defined by its exposed granite cliffs, massive Atlantic swells, and "big sky" vistas. This region has often been a pilgrimage for me as an artist because of the unique quality of light. The salt-heavy air creates a natural diffusion—much like the hazy mid-ground in this painting—where the horizon line often blurs between sea and sky.
